American Red Cross Event: Sound The Alarm

05/07/2022 - 8:00pm to 05/14/2022 - 5:00pm

Join us on Saturday May 7th at Ka Hale Moi or May 14th at Ka Hale Moi for the American Red Cross Sound the Alarm nationwide campaign to save lives by installing 100,000 alarms, to include 1,000 alarms in Hawaii.

Since 2014, Red Cross volunteers and community partners have installed 1.4 milling smoke alarms, making over 600,000 households safer, and saving at least 472 lives.

Everyday, 7 Americans perish in home fires, and Red Cross offers help and hope in the aftermath.

Smoke alarms cut the rate of death in half, so they install free smoke alarms in the homes of vulnerable populations like the elderly and disabled, and educate them on how to prevent and escape from home fires.

Volunteer Positions:

  • Documenter: completes documentation forms and keeps track of supplies, including number of smoke alarms installed.
  • Safety Educator: reviews fire safety checklist and prevention tips and helps residents complete fire escape plans.
  • Installer: installs smoke alarms with resident's permission, and within manufacturer's and program guidelines.
  • Assistant: assists Installer with tools, supplies, and safety.
